Semiconductor Industry
Semiconductor is the most primary element in the plating industry. As the name suggests they can also act as conductors and insulators. They are used in LED, chips, transistors and other basic electronic components.
WHERE IS IT USED?
Plating has tremendous advantages including corrosion protection, electrical conductivity and oxidation resistance. It also increases the strength and durability of the components. It promotes greater resistance to heat and gives a good aesthetic appeal. Plating is majorly used in the following components in semiconductor industry:
✓ Chips
✓ LED
✓ Transistor
✓ Electronic control parts
and more
Plating Process
Plating can be done in variety of ways depending on the type of application. Here are a few important process used by semiconductor industry to plate different components.
Palladium Plating
Palladium plating is used when the substrate requires a lighter finish. It is usually used a as a substitute to gold plating as it is more expensive. It is used for manufacturing of electronics and semiconductors.
Nickel Plating
Nickel plating is usually used to provide as a base layer for gold plating. It provides more even and uniform coating on the surface. It takes the characteristics of the alloy which are combined along with Nickel like Palladium/Zinc.
Gold Plating
Gold is one of the most widely used material for plating of semiconductors. It is corrosion resistant and is an excellent conductor of electricity and heat. It also prevents tarnishing and increases longitivtiy of the substrate.
