Medical Applications

Medical and Healthcare

The surgical instruments, heart valve or even heart pace make use of plating for various purposes.Performance of the product must be great and it should be clean and free from all kinds of defects. Medical plating plays a very important role and quality is the most critical factor as it it the question of life and death.

WHERE IS IT USED?

Plating has tremendous advantages including corrosion protection, electrical conductivity and oxidation resistance. It also increases the strength and durability of the components. It promotes greater resistance to heat and gives a good aesthetic appeal. Plating is majorly used in the following components in medical and healthcare industry

✓  Electrical Contacts

✓  Forceps

✓  Scanning components

✓  Arthroscopic components

✓  Endoscopic components

✓ Stethoscope chest pieces

✓ Radiological Vessels

✓ Stents

✓ Dental Implants

✓ Electronic Pacemaker

✓ Anaesthesia delivery components

and more…

Plating Process

Plating can be done in variety of ways depending on the type of application. Here are a few important process used by medical industries to plate different components.

Tin Plating

Tin plating is one of the most affordable plating process. It is not only non toxic but also has excellent corrosion resistance. It is mainly used in MRI machines and radiological equipments.

Gold Plating

Gold plating provides corrosion resistance and prevents the substrate from tarnishing. It is also biocompatible and is majorly used for manufacturing of gold plated stents. Electronic heart pacemakers also use gold plating. It is also used for electronic contacts.

Copper Plating

Copper plating is extremely cost effective and is an excellent conductor of electricity. It is mainly used for manufacturing of medical instruments. Copper is also resistant to bacteria hence is used for laboratory experiments.
